Multi-Sensory Art Project
The Multi-Sensory Art Project provides immersive and interactive experiences of art to local children and young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).
Becky Churchill set up the project, in partnership with the Educational Trust, in 2012 with the aim of providing high quality experiences of modern and contemporary art for those who are least likely to access such opportunities.
Inspired by the artwork at Roche Court Sculpture Park, the team used props, handling objects and art installations to evoke all of the senses, allowing the artwork to be explored through non-verbal means.
The project moved partially online during 2020, beaming the multi-sensory art project into people’s homes and creating a legacy of multi-sensory films and activities. These resources are beneficial and available for everyone.
In 2022, the team behind the project were awarded the Marsh Award for Excellence in Visual Arts Engagements.
“There is a huge lack of provision in our area for externally-run activities which are suitable for complex needs students which is why we place such value on this project and really look forward to it each year.”
