Teacher Twighlights and Workshops

Get ideas and inspiration from exhibitions in the Gallery and Design House. These special events include a private view of the exhibition with a talk from a New Art Centre director, curator, or exhibiting artist. Resources and refreshments are included.

COMMON THREAD 28 March – 31 May 2020
Textile production in its myriad forms is one of the earliest human technologies. The works in this exhibition reflect on the place of textiles both in contemporary society, and in art.
● Teachers’ Evening 30 April, 5-7pm, Free
Join a private view of Common Thread with an introduction by the New Art Centre’s Creative Director. You will have the opportunity to network with other educators and take away a resource pack to use in school.
● Teachers’ CPD Day 15 May, 10am – 3pm, £30
Explore the gallery and the processes used in the Common Thread exhibition, combining art and textiles. Join a practical, in depth, artist led workshop with one of the exhibiting artists. Develop your skills and gain inspiration to take back into the classroom.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ABOVE EVENTS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED: In the light of heightened social distancing measures being put in place nationally, in accordance with recommendations by UK Government and Public Health England to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this session in order to protect all visitors and our team. Instead, we will be posting creative activities and ideas online, on our social media channels and via our e-newsletters! The Sculpture Park outdoor areas remain open for individuals and families.

INHABITED SCULPTURE 6 June – 6 September 2020
Brancusi stated, “Architecture is inhabited sculpture”, this exhibition looks at the shape of our homes and how we shape our homes around us. Bringing together artists, architects and designers who have explored elements of the everyday and reimagined them.
● Teachers’ Evening and Micro-workshop 18 June, 5-7pm, Free
Join a private view and introduction to the Inhabited Sculpture exhibition. Plus, take part in a micro-workshop using simple materials to explore art and architecture, and the possibilities for ‘inhabiting sculpture’.

Developing Creative Teaching

● 2D to 3D: explore, make, communicate
3 July, 10am – 3pm, Free for teachers in Wessex schools
(south of the A303)
Join us for an artist led, immersive and inspirational day in the Sculpture Park. Challenge your curiosity and develop skills that enable students to engage, make and critically evaluate in a meaningful way. Make a sculptural maquette from 2D sketch to 3D form and then take away a comprehensive teachers’ resource pack to share your experience with colleagues. Funded by The Arts Society Wessex Area.

● Primary Arts Curriculum Evening
13 May, 5-7pm, Free
An evening exploring creative opportunities with the top creative organisations in the county. You will have the chance to take part in micro taster workshops, and a speed meeting with organisations including Wiltshire Music Connect, Salisbury Museum, English Heritage, Wiltshire Creative, La Folia, Chalke Valley History Festival and Salisbury Cathedral to find out about opportunities for your school!
