Family Workshops

We provide workshops for families throughout the year to encourage the enjoyment of looking and talking about art together. The sessions promote a supported environment to explore the exhibitions at the New Art Centre and to develop an ownership from the community in our cultural heritage.

Please note that booking is essential for all our family workshops. To book places or to enquire about any of our family workshops please contact us via email: or telephone: 01980 862802

Art Explorers: We’re going on a Sculpture Quest!
Wednesday 9 August, 10am – 12.30pm

Families will be led on a fun interactive tour of the sculpture park at Roche Court, with particular focus on a selection of sculptures that encourage exploration and adventure. We will create our own sculptures in response to this. All will join in practical activities and discussion.
Fields, Planes and Lines
Thursday 17 August, 10am – 12.30pm

Exploring the current exhibition by Andrea Zittel, we will use her ‘Flat Fields’ as inspiration to consider fields, planes and lines. Like the artist, we will consider links between art and architecture, the art of everyday life and the placement of art. We will use our findings to inspire new ‘platform’ artworks of our own.
Neo-Geo: Messages through shapes
Wednesday 23 August, 10am – 12.30pm

What is Neo-geometry? How and why do artists share their ideas through shapes? Why does it look so amazing? How can I create something like that? We will explore the newly installed ‘Neo-Geometry: Group Painting Show’ and find answers to these questions. We will then use our experiences to create our own Neo-Geometry!
